Mental Health

Mental health is a level of psychological well-being, or an absence of a mental disorder; it is the “psychological state of someone who is functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioural adjustment”.

It is quite heart breaking that the society apprehends the mentally ill persons to be a burden. People do not utilize their potentialities creatively. Some live their whole lives within the four walls of their dark rooms. They remain secluded from the society and accept an inactive lifestyle. The community at large is still hesitant in accepting such persons into its fold. In such scenario, the existing stigma against mental illness create more hurdles for an effective rehabilitation of the mentally  ill in our country.

Mental illness has become a common problem across the world. In India the issue becomes more complex due to huge population where a large number of mentally ill are from low income families. Further the rising cost of medical care and living expenses make mental health care a huge task for the society.

In such a setting, Greeshma Foundation has identified the enormous need of catering to the mental health care needs of the poor in Kerala, and established a Mental Health Care Centre in 2015 that is committed to provide the scientific mental health care, in a respectful way, at free of cost and in a caring environment using all the latest modalities of mental treatment.
